Must Do Things On A Florida Holiday

A Florida holiday is like no other - Florida revels in its role as the world?s favourite playground. Yet its never-ending beaches, easy going lifestyle and world-famous theme parks only tell part of the Sunshine State?s story.

The Keys are testimony to its enduring love affair with the sea; the Everglades is a fascinating wilderness left pretty much as nature intended; and the vibrant Latino culture of Miami has transformed it into one of America?s most fashionable cities.

For white knuckle rides and breakfasts with Goofy, Orlando Florida is the place for you, with Walt Disney World?s four different theme parks, Universal Studios and Universal?s Islands of Adventure providing endless hours of fun.

Those looking for endless white sand beaches, meanwhile, should focus on the Gulf (or West) Coast and resort of Naples. Less sophisticated and more slow-paced than the East Cost of Florida, attractions include waterways flanked by stunning millionaires? homes, world-class golf courses and the chance to spot wild dolphins playing in the ocean.

On the East Coast of Florida in affluent Palm Beach you?ll find the ritzy summer homes of some of America?s most respected families, the designer boutiques of Worth Avenue and the manicured greens of countless golf courses.

Miami is much less pristine and far more cutting edge. A fast paced, high energy city on the water, its hotels, spas, restaurants and shopping malls all vie with each other for ?number one? status, those in South Beach often winning the race. Very Cuban, very exciting and very 24 hour, where else are the restaurants owned by world famous superstars?

Whatever part of Florida you choose to holiday in, make the most of it splash out! Stay in a luxury villa like a superstar ? drink cocktails by your own private pool, and enjoy the Florida sun.

BCC Foundation/Cigna Golf Classic raises funds for scholarships

The 20th Annual Broward Community College Foundation / Cigna Healthcare Golf Classic was held at the Fort Lauderdale Country Club in Plantation. The tournament was followed by an evening reception, an auction and an awards presentation. The tournament provided an opportunity for nonmembers to play at the historic, exclusive club and, most importantly, to benefit higher education. Jamie Tidwell, of Merrill Lynch & Co. Inc. served as chair.

"The event will net more than $125,000 that will be matched by the state of Florida to benefit the STARS Academy and scholarships for our students," said Lloyd Rhodes," BCC Foundation chair and president of The Rhodes Insurance Group. Rhodes was also a member of the tournament committee. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit STARS – Steering Teens Toward Academic Rewards and Success – a tutoring/mentoring program for at-risk students in grades six through 12.

"This is really our premier fundraising event for the year," said BCC president Dr. Willis Holcombe. "The Fort Lauderdale Country Club is a great venue, with two courses, which allows us to involve many more people, to help provide scholarships." The "Kiss My Brass" trophy, for the winning corporate team, was won by the McLaughlin Engineering team of Jerald McLaughlin, Dave Ramsey, Bill Laystrom and Scott McLaughlin, who shot a blistering 55.

In at second on the South Course was the Nova Southeastern University squad of Dennis Dannacher, Steve Harvey, Randy Pohlman and Peter Finley, who shot 58. One stroke back for third was the team of Scott Nielson, Mark Klein, Pat Ucci and Dave Dyrek.

Long-drive winners on the South Course were Brent Martin and Charlene Fernsel. Ray Casey and Carlos Curbelo won the closest-to-the-pin title. On the North Course, the Leo Goodwin Foundation team of Elliot Borkson, Art Greenfeder, Wayne Krample and Henry Glick also shot a red-hot 55 to win their division. Three strokes back was the Lank Oil Company team Bill Lank, Rob French, Hank Norwell and Gary Onorati. Finishing third at 61 was the Rhodes Insurance Group squad of Lloyd Rhodes, Bob DeCosmo, Bill Emo and Zack Tanner. Art Greenfeder won the long-drive competition and Rob French and Dave Hall won the closest-to-the-pin contest.

This was the ninth consecutive year that Cigna Healthcare was the tournament's title sponsor. "The BCC Foundation has always been really instrumental in providing scholarship support to students in need. It's so important. Education is the cornerstone of the society," said Todd Brown, vice president of sales for Cigna HealthCare of Florida and member of the tournament committee.
